An Introduction To Safety Vest
A safety vest is required, in potentially life threatening situations, where an employee could be in danger of injury by machines that are operated by other employees, who might not see the other person is there. Law enforcement officers usually wear these, and there are other situations where these vests could be of assistance in protecting life and limb. Let’s take a look at a few of them.
Surveyors Vests, as sometimes called, are made in different sizes and colors which can range from the usual bright colors of caution orange, yellow and lime, to darker colors which might also have reflective stripes sewn into the fabric. OSHA laws require construction workers to wear these vests, not only to protect themselves from not being seen, but to help identify who is on the job site. Mountain skiing, and water skiing, are two places where most people might not think of wearing a safety vest, but these vivid colors help make the skier stand out so well, that it helps ensure the safety of other parties, too. Other skiers, or boat drivers, can clearly identify that there is someone in their path, and avoid having a life threatening mishap.
Children are attracted to bright colors, and parents are beginning to use these vests to help protect their children from oncoming cars, and other pedestrians. The kids find a way to turn them into the “Make Believe” game, as heroes of fame, such as firefighters, policemen, and high rise construction workers.
Motorcycles can be dangerous in some areas of the world, because they are small, and often dark in color. The operators can wear these jackets to improve their visibility, and so can people who enjoy riding bicycles, or taking nature walks. Road crews often wear these vests to ensure that they can be seen by passing motorists. Outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy remote camping, or mountain climbing, can wear these to increase their chances of any rescue team finding them, in the event they become lost, or injured.
The average citizen may find themselves a victim of mechanical breakdown that leaves them stranded on the roadside, and could help ensure their own security by having a safety vest stored in the car, in case they have to walk to find assistance. There are many practical reasons to have one of these or a safety tee shirts within easy reach.
